The house in the Walloon of Eden in Alicudi

Description

This corner of the island is really special: after a climb of about 20 minutes (or 365 steps) you are 180m above sea level and you have arrived! By the way: to get to the Vallone dell’Eden you can choose different paths and thus discover day by day new picturesque views of the island. Here you are halfway up the coast, not too high, but enough to enjoy peace and quiet and the most beautiful view of the island.

The accommodation
Garden and terraces
The house is secluded from the main path and overlooks the sea with views as far as the Calabrian coast and Sicily with Mount Etna on display. The view sweeps over the Aeolian Islands (Filicudi, Lipari, Salina, Vulcano and Stromboli), which shimmer like pearls in the Mediterranean Sea. The house is surrounded by a lush terraced garden with palm trees, olive trees, fruit trees, lemons and oranges, pink pepper, wonderful strelitzie, agaves, aloes, geraniums, bougainvilleas, exotic cacti and other succulent plants, and the typical Mediterranean maquis. Shade, scents and beautiful colors for your relaxation in one of the hammocks or on a comfortable charpoy bed on one of the typical Aeolian terraces shaded with bamboo reeds. In the garden under a pepper tree a romantic shower and a typical stone sink.

Interior and furniture
A cube (the traditional Aeolian architectural module) presents a small living room with a sofa bed for 2 and a loft with a double bed and view directly into the blue sky and sea. Adjacent, the kitchen is fully furnished and has a large terrace in front of it for your dinners (with external sink).
Proceeding you arrive to the bathroom with washbasin, hot and cold shower and WC, which has been obtained from a mannara (traditional animal shelter), with a covered patio in front.
A few meters ahead and completely detached, a module with two rooms with 3 beds each and wardrobes and desks in masonry; in front of it there is the traditional terrace covered with bamboo reeds and cleaning and bisuoli (the typical columns with masonry seats).
Going up a staircase you reach a fishing line (terraced garden), where there is a bathroom with WC with a breathtaking view of Filicudi.
Old handmade tiles decorate the floors. The masonry furniture, the eclectic furniture and furnishings collected by the owners around the world, the typical niches of traditional houses and last but not least the beautiful warm colours of the interior walls and wooden beams give the whole house a truly unique charm.
The house has a water tank and electricity.

A few considerations about the island’s ecosystem and house rules.
The water is collected in tanks, it is not drinkable but it is extremely valuable! Use it consciously and do not waste it! When you take a shower, collect water in the basin and use it for the toilet and to water the plants; the same applies to water for rinsing dishes or cloths. For greater respect for the fragile ecological balance, we ask you to use (sparingly) environmentally friendly detergents and soaps. Take them with you to the island.
The rubbish must be brought down to the port by you; therefore: the less rubbish you produce the lighter you go down to the sea. Be careful: don’t leave any food or rubbish lying around, ants and mice are waiting for you!!!
You are not allowed to flush toilet paper (or anything else) down the toilet.
Do not light fires!
No smoking in the house.
The house and garden may not be safe for small children.
Pets are not allowed.
It is not allowed to organize parties/events in the house and/or on the terraces/gardens.
